Cyntoia Brown-Long Visits Newark’s 3rd Space for Q&A with Aliya S. King

Cyntoia Brown-Long Visits Newark’s 3rd Space for Q&A with Aliya S. King

For so long, we’ve seen images of a child, eyes filled with disappointment in a system that had clearly faild her. On stage last night though, sat a woman. Poised. Resilient. Hopeful.

Free Cyntoia: My Search for Redemption in the American Prison System shares the story of Cyntoia Brown-Long in her own words. For those unfamiliar with her story, Cyntoia was sentenced to life in prison for the murder a man (when she was 16yrs old) that she says paid to have sex with her.

Her story made national news after many celebrities + notable activists shared the hashtag #FreeCyntoia which went vial in 2017. In 2019, she was granted full clemency and became a free woman on August 7th of this year.

We’d like thank Cyntoia Brown-Long for having Newark as one of the stops on her book tour. Thank you to the ever so talented Aliya S. King for asking the right questions + opening up the floor for attendees to do the same. Last but absolutely not least, Kenny Miles for organizing this event (and so many others) through 3rd Space Cowork for us to enjoy right in our own backyard.

Be sure to order your copy of Free Cyntoia where all books are sold.
